Lehman Blocks Moves To Compensate Wingecarribee Council
It could be another two years before Wingecarribee Council receives any money from its legal battle with failed overseas investment bank, Lehman Brothers. Seventy two Australian councils, charities, churches and private investors nearly lost everything when Lehman Brothers went bankrupt during the global financial crisis. The Federal Court ruled the bank had misled them so was liable for their losses. A vote was to be held today on a scheme developed by liquidators to recover more than $200 million, but Lehman was able to buy voting rights and has tried to block the plan. Negotiations have... Calls For DPP To Explain Charge Downgrade In Kelly Case
Premier Barry O'Farrell says he shares community concern about a plea-bargain with the killer of Kings Cross bashing victim, Thomas Kelly. 19 year old Kieran Loveridge has been allowed to plead guilty to the manslaughter of the Bowral teenager but the Kelly family believes he should have been tried for murder. Mr Kelly’s mother, Kathy has expressed disappointment that the family "had no rights or say at all" in the procedure. Truck Crash Closes Hume Highway
There have been major delays to traffic on the Hume Highway this morning following a truck crash near Marulan. The accident happened about 10KM south of the town, and at one stage led to the closure of both south bound lanes. Traffic was banked back for about 6KM. One lane has been re-opened, and the second will follow when the wreckage is cleared. North bound traffic is flowing freely. Read more
