Budget Surplus Before Health

Diabetes Australia says at least one million Australians have been diagnosed with diabetes and up to 275 new cases are diagnosed every day. Experts predict that by 2016 it will be the leading disease burden in the country - costing the nation billions.

Now the head of Diabetes Australia has accused the federal government of putting a budget surplus above the health of 1.7 million Australians with diabetes. CEO Lewis Kapalan say it's not good for the nation's health to not focus more strongly on the diabetes pandemic because it's going to send the system broke.
