Oscars 2012 : The ‘haven’t seen it but I’d like to’ guide

Sunday, 26 February 2012 15:07

oscars1 Welcome to the Oscars for 2012. If past years are anything to go by, there’s a good chance you may not have seen the movies that will sweep the awards tomorrow. Let’s run through the best chances and why you should bother handing over your hard earned to see them

viola 2ST BEST ACTRESS OSCAR TIP : Viola Davis – The Help

This movie didn’t do amazing things at the box office in Australia, but in America was a sensation, mainly due to the success of the book of the same name. Viola Davis will just nudge out Meryl Streep for ‘The Iron Lady’, merely based on the heavy conviction of the character. Viola’s role of an African American maid in southern America battling racism and oppression in the 1960’s is outstanding, with tremendous support from the beautiful Emma Stone and Octavia Spencer.

george 2ST BEST ACTOR OSCAR TIP: George Clooney – The Descendants

A slow burn movie in Australia, audiences have warmed to Clooney’s performance as a single father bring his family together in Hawaii. His sarcastic and bittersweet performance is remarkable and made the Descendants script lift off the page. Expect hot competition from Jean Dujardin in ‘The Artist’ and the dark horse is Brad Pitt for ‘Money Ball’

theartist 2ST BEST DIRECTOR TIP: Michel Hazanavicius – The Artist

An amazing triumph to make a silent film that is slowly still taking the world by storm. Michel’s accolade is well-deserved. A strong contender, with only real concern for Martin Scorces’s turn in ‘Hugo’. Hazanavcius by a country mile.

2ST BEST PICTURE TIP: The Artist

If this doesn’t win, expect half of Hollywood to go off their beak. As mentioned above, this will romp in, Descendants in with the next chance.

And the real highlight – The return of Billy Crystal

How much you earn on average, the kids and more Let’s take my suburb… There’s more women than men and it’s a young... Read more
