Hume Highway Patrol will out in force across the Southern Highlands over the Anzac Day weekend with double demerits in place until midnight Tuesday .
Police will be targeting speeding, alcohol and drug driving offences, illegal use of mobile phones and not wearing seatbelts.
Seven lives were lost on NSW roads over the Easter Long Weekend including four in a crash on the Barton Highway.
Officers from the Hume Police District attended that incident and Acting Inspector Michael Malone is urging motorists to drive to the conditions.
“It’s a horrendous thing as a Police Officer to go and deal with those situations,
“Absolutely terrible and so tragic for the family,”Acting Inspector Malone said.
