Latest NSW crime stats for the Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands are disturbing.
Over the five years to March 2024, Domestic assault reports increased 15.4% in 11 of the 13 regional reporting areas.
In the Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands Domestic Violence related offences went from 497 in March 2020 to 570 to March this year – a 3-point-5 percent yearly increase over the last 5 years.
Executive Director of the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, Jackie Fitzgerald, said, “The 15% increase in reports of domestic violence related assaults in NSW is due to an increase in reported family violence, together with an escalation of intimate partner assaults.”
