Snake season returns

September 30, 2024 8:27 am in by

The return of warm weather means the return of snakes in our parks and reserves and people’s backyards. So, here’s a reminder about what to do when you meet one.

Snakes are not naturally aggressive and always prefer to retreat. They will only attack humans if hurt or provoked and most bites occur when people try to kill or capture snakes.

If you come across a snake in the bush, just calmly walk the other way.

If you find a snake in your home or garden do not try to handle or kill the snake.

Keep children and pets well away.

If you want it removed, contact one of our local reptile handlers:

A reminder that it is illegal to kill native birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals.
