Fast tracking disaster recovery funds

Wingecarribee Shire Council has secured a significant boost to its disaster recovery efforts, with the NSW Government speeding up the delivery of new funding to repair roads and transport infrastructure damaged by natural disasters.

As one of the first Councils in NSW to sign a pioneering pilot funding agreement with the NSW Reconstruction Authority and Transport for NSW, Wingecarribee Shire Council can now access advance funding at the start of each reconstruction phase.

Previously, infrastructure repairs had to be financed upfront to then wait for reimbursement from State or Federal Government.

Wingecarribee Shire Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick emphasised the importance of strong collaboration between all government levels to meet the needs of local communities and foster growth.

“From catastrophic bushfires, storms and floods, our Shire has endured the devastating impacts of 15 natural disasters over the past five years, the highest in the state. Securing advanced funding is crucial to repairing the damage and restoring our community.”

“We extend our thanks to the NSW Government for streamlining this process. This timely support will reduce financial strain and allow for faster repairs on critical infrastructure, resulting in a safer and more resilient future for our community,” said Mayor Fitzpatrick.
