Man arrested over alleged excavator theft

A man will face court after an excavator was stolen in the state’s south.

On the 1 May 2024, police attached to The Hume Police District commenced an investigation following reports of an excavator stolen from a business on Clements Road, Woodlands.

It is alleged the excavator was stolen in October 2021 and the incident was reported to officers at Yass Police Station on Wednesday (1 May 2024).

Police were told a 5.7 tonne excavator was left at the property before it disappeared.

Following initial inquiries, about 12pm on Saturday (1 June 2024), officers located the excavator at an address on Coodravale Road, Wee Jasper, about 85km north-west from Canberra.

The excavator was seized, and the investigation continued.

Following further inquiries, about 11.30am on Thursday (6 June 2024), officers attached to the Rural Crime Prevention Team and The Hume Police District, with assistance from Monaro Police District, arrested a 40-year-old man at an address on Ironbark Road, Bargo.

He was taken to Southern Highlands Police Station, where he was charged with receive property-theft equal to serious indictable offence more than $5000 and goods in personal custody suspected being stolen.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Moss Vale Local Court next month
