Motorists will experience safer journeys with speed limit changes on the way this month for Marulan South Road at Marulan.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the speed zone was reviewed in consultation with NSW Police and local Council and in accordance with the NSW Speed Zoning Standard.
“In response to requests from Goulburn-Mulwaree Council, residents and local businesses, the speed limit will be reduced from 80 km/h to 60 km/h to improve safety on the 7.48 kilometre stretch of road from south of the roundabout on the Hume Highway at Marulan, to the end of the road at Boral Lime Works.
“It was found the reduced speed limit was necessary due to the increased use of heavy vehicles, the narrow width and access to and from businesses, farms and residential properties.”
The change will result in a travel time increase of about one minute and 15 seconds.
The spokesperson said factors considered when reviewing speed settings included: crash history and the presence of vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians, motorcyclists and bicycle riders, road function and use, roadside development, road characteristics and traffic mix.
New speed zone signs will be installed from the week of 10 October, weather permitting.
