Wingecarribee Shire Council is set to begin culvert renewals on Robinson Street in Mittagong on Monday July 15.
Works will be undertaken at the creek between Robinson Street and Nero Street and will include, Box culvert and headwall installations, Reconstruction of road pavement, Safety fence and signage installations and Creek bank stabilisation, tree removals and revegetation.
When complete, the creek bank will be stabilised, and the culvert’s capacity will be significantly increased to improve flood immunity at the creek crossing and enhance creek water quality.
Additionally, it will improve traffic safety and provide residents with a second exit route during bushfire events.
Funding was secured by Transport for NSW through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangement (DRFA) to address the damage caused by the flooding events of February and March 2022.
Runoff from the creek had significantly damaged stormwater pipes, headwalls, and road pavement at the intersection of Robinson Street and Devon Street in Mittagong, consequently, the road and bank channel were substantially eroded.
Works are expected to be finalised by Dec 2024.
Road users and pedestrians are urged to be aware of heavy machinery and workers in the area during this time and are asked to follow the changed traffic conditions and exercise care when travelling near the area.
