A British woman recently discovered that her cat, Ted, might really have nine lives. While Nicci Knight from Newby, North Yorkshire was on vacation in Turkey, she received devastating news from her neighbors: Ted had drowned in their pond.
Heartbroken, she arranged a funeral back home and thought she had said her final goodbye to Ted. “Breaking the news to my husband and four children was incredibly difficult. Ted was a major part of our family,” Knight told the BBC.
However, while relaxing by the pool a few days later, Knight received several missed calls from her cat sitter. When she finally answered, she was astonished to hear that Ted had walked through the catflap as if nothing had happened.
“I was in disbelief,” Knight said. “I needed to see Ted alive through FaceTime to believe it.”
It turned out that Knight had mistakenly paid £130 (AU$255) to cremate someone else’s cat. When she picked up the ashes, the urn was labeled “Not Dead Ted.”
Vicki Crallan from the Heavenly Pets Crematorium described the situation as “bittersweet” and expressed concern that another family might be missing their pet.
Ted, meanwhile, seems purrfectly unfazed by the confusion.
