Just two years ago, Amazon revived the beloved soap Neighbours after its shocking cancellation by the Ten Network, which ended its remarkable 37-year run.
At the time, fans rejoiced when Amazon signed a multi-year deal in late 2022 to bring the iconic show back to life.
Now, heartbreak strikes again.
According to The Sun, production is set to conclude this summer in the UK, with the final episode airing before the end of the year.
Reports suggest Amazon’s venture into the soap opera world fell short, as viewer numbers failed to meet expectations.
A source revealed, “Amazon gave Fremantle two years to see if it could work, but sadly, the audience just wasn’t there.”
“It’s a really sad day, especially for the cast and crew in Melbourne.”
They continued, “This truly feels like the end of Neighbours, right as it was about to celebrate its 40th anniversary.”
Fans have already taken to social media to express their devastation and anger, mourning what appears to be a final farewell to Ramsay Street.
WTF @amazon @PrimeVideo?! You can’t take away our, sorry, YOUR number one show! #Neighbours #SaveNeighbours pic.twitter.com/nnH0bcsymp

If it’s true #Neighbours has been dropped by @PrimeVideo I’m going to be furious. Not only did they undo the perfect ending just to drop it again, but personally, you don’t take away an autistic person’s hyperfixation TWICE in two years and expect them to be okay. @neighbours

The 40th #Neighbours Anniversary tour was a huge success. The love for the show was there for all to see.

Cancelling this show again is madness. The fans have proven how much this show is loved. Do the right thing @amazon. Tell us the rumours aren’t true!!!#SaveNeighbours pic.twitter.com/GkWd47BXRp
It remains unclear whether the cast and crew have been officially informed, but for now, it seems Neighbours may be bidding a permanent goodbye.
