The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been officially revealed, confirming the long-anticipated successor to the popular Switch console. Set for release in 2025, the new device maintains a similar form factor to its predecessor, with notable improvements.
Key features of the Nintendo Switch 2 include:
- Slightly larger compared to the original Switch
- Magnetically connecting Joy-Con controllers, potentially using a system similar to DJI action camera accessories
- A sleeker, rounder-edged dock
- Initial reveal showcasing a pure grey design with colour accents under the joysticks and on side connectors
The first-look trailer was teased displaying a Mario Kart game, sparking speculation about the possible release of “Mario Kart 9”
This would be a welcome addition, considering fans have been playing variations of Mario Kart 8 for over a decade.
Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with original Nintendo Switch games.
More details about the console and its launch lineup will be revealed during a Nintendo Direct event scheduled for April 2, 2025.
To build excitement, Nintendo plans to host hands-on “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience” events in various cities worldwide, allowing consumers to try the new console before its release
